Client: Cochran Ltd
The Brief
Cochran Ltd, a global supplier of industrial boilers, was facing trouble with one of their systems and required our in-house team to assess the problem and resolve it. The defect was found in the access ring, which required an industrial boiler D-patch repair.
The Solution
This D-patch repair required our specialist engineers to perform interim non-destructive inspections as well as coded welding. During each stage of the repair, our specialists performed careful preparation and analysis to ensure valid inspections and insurance requirements.
Work Completed
- First, we precisely marked out the access ring D-patch area so it was ready for removal.
- We removed the section and cleaned and prepared it for magnetic particle inspection (MPI), which is required by the insurer before any welding proceeds. We ensured everything was clean and visually sound for an accurate MPI, confirming the area is defect free and fit for repair.
- Our in-house engineer performed coded welding with interim MPI to ensure each stage meets the highest standards.
- With the welding complete, the cap was ground flushed for a clean finish and everything was prepared for a final NDT (non-destructive testing) to validate the industrial boiler D-patch repair.
- The post-weld NDT passed and was fully approved, as always, thanks to our expert work.
The Finished Project
By carrying out this access ring D-patch repair with staged magnetic particle inspections, precision coded welding and full post-weld NDT approval, DK Welding Services Ltd successfully restored the integrity and compliance of the pressure component. Our structured, quality-led repair process ensured the repair met insurer standards while restoring the boiler to safe, reliable operation with minimal disruption to their premises.
